Wisdom — Devotional and Prayer — KJV Bible Study

Before this day carries you wherever it will, set your feet on the beginning of wisdom: the fear of the LORD. That is the door, and there is no other. You do not have to be wise already, and you do not have to be old. If any of you lack wisdom, you are told plainly what to do — ask of God, who gives to everyone generously, and does not scold; and it will be given to you. So do not go out to find your own way today; ask. Get wisdom: it is the most important thing. But do not look for it in the wisdom of this world, which is foolishness to God. Look for it where it is hidden — in Christ, who was made wisdom for us from God, and in whom all the treasures are hidden. The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and full of mercy. Ask for that wisdom today, and walk in the fear of the LORD, and you will not lack. Search it out.

Lord, you are the God who gives wisdom, and out of your mouth come knowledge and understanding. I begin where you tell me to begin: in the fear of you, which is the beginning of wisdom. I lack, and you know it; so I ask, because you give to everyone generously, and you do not scold. Give me wisdom today — not the wisdom of this world, which is foolishness to you, but the wisdom that is from above, that is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and full of mercy. Keep me from leaning on my own understanding. Make me hate evil, because that is the fear of the LORD; and lead me to Christ, in whom all the treasures of wisdom are hidden, so that I may find the knowledge of God. And because the love of many will grow cold, give me wisdom to hold on to the end and not grow lukewarm — keep my heart in the fear of you, so that I do not faint, but am found faithful. Then a good understanding will be mine, because I want to do your commandments, and not only hear them. Amen.
